Hello

I’m Ross! I am a 27 year old culture & education enthusiast. I am a Kiwi-Indian born and bred in Taranaki, New Zealand. In my earlier years I tutored mathematics to children from pre-school to high-school whilst learning preforming arts (music and dance) and sport. I shifted to Wellington and graduated from Massey University in 2011 with a First-class Honours Bachelor of Visual Communication Design specialised in Digital Media. This education included study in Experiential Design, Interactivity, 3D Animation, Motion Graphics, Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing and Play Research. From 2011-2013 I worked at Gameloft as a 3D Artist where I modelled, textured, and rigged low poly 3D characters and environment assets for iOS and Android games.

mY PASSION LIES IN DESIGNING EDUCATIONAL MEDIA WHICH CAN HELP IMPROVE PEOPLE’S WELL-BEING.

This passion lead me to India where I just completed 18 months of voluntary design work for a spiritual and charitable organisation called Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat. This was a very touching, cultural and soul searching experience which opened the world of Non-profit organisations to me. I was put in the e-media team and given the task of designing various marketing material including the organisations website. I soon became concerned with the lack of appreciation and support received from both the general public, and the followers of the organisation. I then felt further research could be done in developing the online presence for Non-profit organisations to increase their appealing factor.

Just before leaving India I had the thirst to learn more about the cultures, art, history and faiths of western countries, so on the way back from India I visited many of the world’s best museums and art galleries in London and Paris, and I also visited ancient Rome.

MY AREAS OF INTEREST WITHIN DESIGN ARE: CULTURE BUILDING, STORY TELLING, EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN AND CREATING EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS.

My strengths as a designer include having good communication skills, being well organised, having the ability to project manage ambitious projects in the face of adversity with confidence, and the ability to build effective working relationships.

I feel this postgrad research is a wonderful opportunity where I can really focus on developing, designing and enhancing a product which can help Non-profit organisations. I feel this level of study will be a good challenge and will boost my confidence as a professional designer and set a new level of thinking and practice.
